Primary red meat producers across South Africa now have the opportunity to strengthen their voice by becoming part of the Red Meat Forum – an initiative by Free State Agriculture, which aims to identify producers’ challenges at grassroots level, promote their interests and strengthen collaboration within the industry.
Although the Forum was established by Free State Agriculture, it is not limited to the Free State. Producers from all provinces are invited to join and participate in a larger, joint effort to promote a sustainable and profitable red meat industry in South Africa.
“It is important that producers’ real needs and challenges are heard and raised and addressed on the right platforms,” says Friedl von Maltitz, chairperson of the Red Meat Forum.
Von Maltitz says that the Forum will serve as a communication and collaboration platform where bottlenecks can be identified early, relevant industry information shared and producer interests can be more strongly represented.
“The focus is on what matters to producers, namely the sustainability and profitability of their businesses, as well as the long-term future of the South African red meat industry.”
Who can join?
Membership is open to primary red meat producers across South Africa, regardless of which province they farm in.
Existing Free State Agriculture members can register for free, while other producers can join for a minimum amount of R100 per month or R1 200 per year.
